Having delved deeply in World of Warcraft for several years (and having come out of the other side… for now), I am all too aware of the powerful, ‘addictive’ quality that a good MMO can hold. Blizzard’s 11.5 million subscription mammoth has seen months of my life and hundreds of pounds vanish, with my adoration for the world of Azeroth unwavering throughout the process. Evenings spent continuously playing for “just that extra hour” and both school and social life suffering for it. I’m not going to make this a post about the corruptions of WoW or other MMOs, however; MMORPG s are games and, despite the often negative connotations associated with them, are forms of entertainment that, clearly, carry out their intended tasks well enough for us to complain about it ruining our lives! So this is a positive look at what makes the massively multiplayer scene such a moreish endeavour. Read more of this post
